A Japanese ONE PIECE CARD GAME booster box is cheaper than an English one at list price, and by a wide margin: 5,760 yen, about $36.50, against $119.76. That comparison comes from Bandai's own product pages, which price the Japanese pack at 240 yen including tax for OP-17, OP-18 and [EB-05] and the English pack at $4.99 for the same three sets. The gap shrinks once you count cards, because a Japanese pack holds six and an English pack holds 12, and it shrinks again once US tariffs and event rules enter the picture.

What do Bandai's product pages say a One Piece Card Game pack costs in Japan and in English?
The Japanese pack costs 240 yen and the English pack costs $4.99 for every current set. Bandai's Japanese product page for EXTRA BOOSTER ONE PIECE Heroines Edition vol.2 [EB-05] lists "メーカー希望小売価格 240円(税込)," a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 240 yen including tax, with a release date of Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026. The Japanese pages for OP-17, released Aug. 22, and OP-18, due Nov. 21, carry the same 240 yen figure.
The English pages list "USD $4.99 per pack" for EB-05, due Oct. 30, for OP-17, released Aug. 28, and for OP-18, due Nov. 20. Bandai does not print a box price on either site.
Pack size is where the two versions part ways. The Japanese EB-05 page states "1パック:カード6枚," six cards per pack. The English EB-05 pack art on Bandai's page reads "12-Card Booster Pack," and the English box art reads "12 cards per pack / 24 packs per box." The Japanese box art on the same product's page reads "24パック入り," 24 packs per box. So both boxes hold 24 packs, but the English box holds 288 cards and the Japanese box holds 144.

How much is a Japanese One Piece booster box per card compared with an English box?
About 25 cents a card in Japanese against about 42 cents in English, at list price. The yen figures convert at 157.81 yen per dollar, the Oct. 2 rate in the Federal Reserve's H.10 release published Oct. 5, 2026.
- Japanese box: 24 packs at 240 yen = 5,760 yen, about $36.50, for 144 cards. That is roughly $0.25 per card.
- English box: 24 packs at $4.99 = $119.76 for 288 cards. That is roughly $0.42 per card.
The per-card gap is about 39% in favor of the Japanese product, not the 70% the pack prices alone suggest. These are list prices. Bandai's pages do not report what retailers charge, and neither version's secondary-market price is included here.
The card-type counts are the same in both languages. Bandai lists "75+2 types in total" for EB-05 and 131+4 types for OP-17 on both the Japanese and English pages. Neither page publishes pull rates.
Can you play Japanese One Piece cards at events in the United States?
No. Bandai's "Rules for the use of Different Languages," dated Nov. 7, 2025, names five versions of the game and lists where each may be used. The regions that "can use <Japanese version>" are Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. North America, Latin America, Europe and Oceania appear only under the English version.
The same rule says English and Japanese cards can be mixed in one deck in Taiwan and Thailand from Nov. 28, 2025, and English and French cards can be mixed in Europe. No such allowance exists for North America. For a US player, a Japanese box is a collecting purchase, not a tournament one.
What does Japan's tax-free system do to the price of a booster box?
It takes the 10% consumption tax off a purchase of 5,000 yen or more, and the mechanics change on Nov. 1, 2026. Japan's standard consumption tax rate is 10%, according to the Ministry of Finance. The 240 yen pack price includes that tax, so a 5,760 yen box carries about 524 yen of tax and nets to about 5,236 yen, roughly $33.
Under the Japan Tourism Agency's description of the system, "purchases totaling 5,000 yen or more (tax excluded) per store per day are eligible," and goods "must be limited to items that you can personally carry and take out of Japan at the time of departure." One box clears the threshold on its own.
The method changes for purchases made on or after Nov. 1, 2026. The agency says the system "will shift to the Refund Method, under which the amount equivalent to consumption tax will be refunded after a customs inspection at the airport or seaport confirms that the goods are being taken out of Japan." Until Oct. 31, tax-free shops sell at the tax-excluded price at the register. From Nov. 1, buyers pay the full price and collect the refund from the shop or its refund provider after customs. EB-05's Japanese release on Oct. 31 falls on the last day of the old method.
What do US customs rules add to a Japanese One Piece box?
A 15% baseline tariff on shipped goods, and no small-package exemption. The Sept. 4, 2025 executive order implementing the United States-Japan agreement states that "the United States will apply a baseline 15 percent tariff on nearly all Japanese imports entering the United States," applied retroactively from Aug. 7, 2025. On a $36.50 box, 15% is about $5.50 before shipping and any carrier fees.
The de minimis exemption for low-value packages is gone. The July 30, 2025 executive order suspended duty-free de minimis treatment for shipments from all countries "regardless of value, country of origin, mode of transportation, or method of entry," effective Aug. 29, 2025. A single mailed box is therefore dutiable.
Travelers are treated differently from parcels. US Customs and Border Protection says a returning resident "is eligible for the $800 duty-free personal exemption every 31 days, having remained for no less than 48 hours beyond the territorial limits of the United States." CBP's conditions are that the goods accompany the traveler, are for personal or household use or gifts, and are declared. A few boxes in checked luggage sit well inside that figure.
What is still unknown about Japanese vs. English One Piece box prices?
Street prices and pull rates. Bandai publishes list prices but not what stores charge, and this article does not price either version on the secondary market. Whether the Japanese and English print runs share identical card finishes is not stated on the product pages, and pull rates are not published for either version.
